Slovakian Rough Haired Pointer

The Slovakian rough haired pointer (SRHP) was developed by Slovakia in the 1950s by crossing the Czech pointer, German wirehaired pointer and the Weimaraner. Its founder sought a dog of great stamina that would hunt, point and retrieve varied game on land and in water as well as track larger game like deer.

Elegant but sturdy, the SRHP has a long head and ears, alert expression, muscular body and harsh coat and whiskers in any shade of grey. At work it ranges closely to its handler at a gallop. It is a popular working dog in its homeland, not usually kept as a pet but considered good with children if brought up with them and its hunting and exercise needs are met.

In the UK the SRHP is an ideal companion for the rough shooter in any kind of terrain. It can also track deer and work in the beating or picking up team at a local shoot.
